The Cairn Group, which owns the Station Hotel Newcastle, and the Holiday Inn Newcastle Jesmond and Holiday Inn Scotch Corner, has taken over the airport site.
The much anticipated hotel is now on course for a late summer opening providing 175 bedrooms, four star accommodation and a brand new destination in the North East for business and leisure customers. The extensive conference facilities include a function suite for up to 300 people, additional smaller meeting rooms for bespoke events and a state-of-the-art-fitness centre.
The group employs more than 1000 people in a number of hotels and care homes across the UK, this new venture will create 125 jobs directly at Newcastle International, and dozens more in the wider region. The hotel will be operated under a major international brand and an announcement on this will follow in the near future.
“This is a fantastic hotel in a great location. It’s going to be a great asset to the region and its good news that it’s been taken over by a company from the North East,” said a spokesman for the Cairn Group. “We are starting work on completing the hotel immediately and hope to have the bar and restaurant up and running within six weeks, with the hotel fully operational soon after that.”

We look forward to the grand opening in a few months.”
The hotel will include the company’s third Fratello’s Italian restaurant in the region after the success of the eateries at the Holiday Inn Jesmond Newcastle and Holiday Inn Scotch Corner.
