This weekend will see thousands of North East holidaymakers take to the sky as schools from across the region break up for the summer. 55,000 customers are expected through the doors over a three day period from Friday 22nd July. Spain, the Balearic and Canary Islands top the list for the most popular destinations abroad.
Catering outlets at the airport, including Greggs, have calculated how much will be consumed during the following week:
• 3,494 Greggs Sausage Rolls. 14,800 Sausage Rolls are sold over a four week period, if laid end to end this amount would run the length of the runway
• 18,345 pints of draught beer which would fill 52 bathtubs
• 10,777 litres of hot beverages which would fill three Airport Fire Engine water tanks
Gill Caleary, commercial director at Newcastle International, said: ‘Summer is the busiest period in the Airport’s calendar. Over the next few months we see the largest volume of families travelling on their well deserved break. Delivering impeccable customer service and a fulfilling retail experience to the travelling North East Public is a priority for us.’
